Dehradun recently hosted a significant academic gathering as Lok Bhavan, in collaboration with the School of Media and Communication Studies at Doon University, organized a state-level conference on media education on 17 March 2026.
The conference brought together Heads of Departments of Mass Communication and Journalism from universities across Uttarakhand, creating a shared platform for dialogue between academia and media practitioners. The event was chaired by the Hon’ble Governor of Uttarakhand, highlighting its importance at the state level.
The central theme, “Media Education in the Age of AI and the Digital Information Ecosystem: Challenges, Ethics and Opportunities,” set the tone for discussions around the fast-changing media landscape driven by artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
Participants engaged in thoughtful conversations on how media education must evolve to keep pace with these shifts. There was a strong emphasis on strengthening academic frameworks to address issues of information credibility, ethical reporting, and technological disruption.
Key sessions explored challenges such as misinformation, fake news, and deepfakes, along with the growing need for effective crisis and disaster communication. Discussions also covered communication strategies for development and public policy, the role of media in preserving cultural and heritage narratives, and emerging opportunities in media innovation, entrepreneurship, and startups.
The conference concluded with a shared understanding of the need for continuous collaboration between academic institutions and industry to prepare future media professionals for an increasingly complex and AI-driven information ecosystem.
