The structure of the B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) programme is designed to strengthen interdisciplinary engagement between the social sciences, humanities, and law.
Reflecting the integrated dual-degree structure (B.A. + LL.B.), the programme enables students to pursue specialisations under both domains in a structured manner. In B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) program, students are required to opt for two majors and one minor in either Humanities or Management from a basket of disciplines including Political Science, History, English Literature, Economics, Geography, Philosophy, Sociology, Journalism and Mass Communication, Public Administration and Psychology. This ensures a strong conceptual foundation in disciplines that complement and inform legal studies.
Parallelly, under the Law domain, students are required to choose two legal specialisations from the eight baskets offered in the areas: Constitutional Law, Business Law, International Trade Law, Crime and Criminology, International Law, Law and Agriculture, Intellectual Property Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. This structure enables students to develop focused legal expertise alongside their interdisciplinary academic training.
Students can specialise in any of the following business subjects
The programme also integrates AI and technology-enabled business courses, enhancing students’ industry readiness and improving opportunities with top corporate firms and multinational companies.
The programme also includes dedicated training for Civil Services (UPSC/State PSC) and Judicial Services Examinations, ensuring early preparation and guidance.
A distinctive strength of the Doon School of Law is its internship support system, starting from the first year. Every student is required to complete four internships during the program, with one internship to be undertaken at the end of each academic year. For students who may struggle to secure opportunities, especially first-generation lawyers or those without established networks, the institute proactively arranges internships, ensuring meaningful practical exposure and industry-ready experience.
This internship is to be done by the students in the first 2 years to provide them early exposure to legal and community service work. The purpose is to help them understand ground-level issues, develop empathy, and build essential skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and field-based research. These experiences prepare students for more advanced legal internships by giving them practical insights into society, public systems, and the real-world challenges that law seeks to address.
Legal internships are designed to provide students with specialised, hands-on training during the third and fourth years, once they have built a strong academic foundation. These internships place students in law firms, advocates’ chambers, courts and tribunals, corporate legal departments, legal aid organisations, and various government bodies or commissions. Through these placements, students learn to apply legal concepts to real cases and procedures, develop skills in research and drafting, observe court functioning, and understand the practical workings of the legal system.
The Doon School of Law believes in holistic legal education, combining rigorous academics with practical, experiential, and co-curricular activities to prepare students for the legal profession. The institution places strong emphasis on learning beyond the classroom, ensuring that students develop critical thinking, advocacy skills, and professional competence.
Students actively participate in moot court competitions, mock trials, and trial advocacy exercises, which help them build courtroom confidence, legal reasoning, and persuasive skills. Regular debates, seminars, and panel discussions encourage intellectual engagement with contemporary legal issues. The program also integrates experiential learning through internships with law firms, courts, corporate organizations, and non-governmental organizations, providing real-world exposure to legal practice.
The Moot Court Society at Doon School of Law provides students with a realistic courtroom experience, replicating the procedures, environment, and decorum of an actual court. It fosters mooting across all batches by organizing workshops, demonstrations, mock pleadings, and mentorship sessions with faculty and experienced mooters.
Students get first-hand exposure to legal argumentation, case preparation, and courtroom advocacy, preparing them to confidently participate in national and international mooting competitions. These activities significantly enhance research, analytical, and presentation skills, shaping students into skilled and practice-ready legal professionals.
The Legal Aid Clinic is dedicated to promoting access to justice by providing pro bono legal assistance to marginalized and underprivileged communities. Under the guidance of faculty members, students actively engage in drafting legal documents, offering basic legal consultations, and organizing legal literacy and awareness camps. This hands-on involvement enables students to develop practical legal skills, enhance their understanding of real-world legal issues, and cultivate a strong sense of social responsibility and professional ethics.
At Doon School of Law, students benefit from direct interaction with leading experts in the legal and policy fields. Renowned jurists, judges, corporate lawyers, policymakers, and academicians regularly deliver guest lectures, sharing their insights, experiences, and practical knowledge of the law.
In addition, the school organizes hands-on workshops and in-depth seminars on contemporary legal issues, including legal drafting, arbitration, intellectual property, corporate law, human rights, and digital law. These sessions provide students with opportunities to engage in discussions, case studies, and interactive exercises, bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.
Through these programs, students enhance their analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, gain exposure to evolving legal trends, and build a professional network that supports their academic and career growth.
The program emphasizes the development of courtroom skills through structured trial court advocacy training and practical exercises. Students participate in mock trials, drafting of pleadings, examination and cross-examination techniques, and case analysis under expert guidance. These activities simulate real courtroom proceedings, enabling students to understand procedural law and litigation strategy.
The School of Law provides a comprehensive and structured judicial coaching facility aimed at preparing students for a wide range of competitive examinations, including the UPSC, State Public Service Commission (PSC) examinations, Judicial Services Examinations, and recruitment tests for positions such as Public Prosecutor, Law Officer, and other government legal roles.
The programme is designed to offer systematic guidance under the mentorship of experienced faculty members, subject experts, and practitioners. It incorporates an integrated approach that combines conceptual clarity, rigorous practice, and strategic exam preparation. Students benefit from regular classroom sessions, focused modules on core legal subjects, current affairs analysis, answer-writing practice, and mock tests that simulate actual examination conditions. Special emphasis is placed on developing analytical skills, legal reasoning, and effective articulation, which are essential for success in competitive examinations. The coaching facility is aligned with the academic curriculum, enabling students to simultaneously strengthen their foundational legal knowledge while preparing for professional career pathways in the judiciary and public service. Through continuous assessment, personalised mentoring, and updated study resources, the programme ensures that students are well-equipped, confident, and examination-ready to excel in highly competitive legal and administrative examinations.
The Mental Health and Wellness Centre at the School of Law is dedicated to promoting the psychological well-being and holistic development of students. It provides a safe, confidential, and supportive environment where students can seek professional guidance to address academic, personal, and emotional challenges.
The Centre offers a range of services, including individual counselling, stress management workshops, group therapy sessions, and mental health awareness programmes. These initiatives are designed to enhance emotional resilience, promote self-awareness, and equip students with effective coping strategies to manage the demands of rigorous academic and professional life. In addition, the Centre actively fosters a culture of openness and sensitivity towards mental health issues through regular outreach activities, seminars, and peer engagement programmes. By integrating well-being with academic success, the Centre plays a vital role in enabling students to maintain a balanced, healthy, and productive university experience.
