Similarly this process is reversed and all in all single delivery of dabba includes about 3 dabbawalas. The charges for this are only 1500/- rupees per month.Theirsupply chain management is so strong that the chance of any error is just 1 in 6 million deliveries.

Dabbawalas are not registered under Companies act rather they are registered under the Bombay Trust Act 1882. Therefore, they are named as Nutan Mumbai tiffin box supplier trust. They also perform various Corporate Social Responsibility activitieslike, sharemydabba and once in a week the dabbawalas carry an extra dabba for the children left stranded and hungry at railway platforms. Dr M. Madhu in his keynote address highlighted the role of agricultural scientists and farmers in increasing the farm production from 50 million tonnes to more than 300 million tonnes and making the country self-sufficient in food production. There were all round developments in different sectors of agriculture after independence ranging from cereals, pulses, oilseeds, sugarcane fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, eggs, cotton and other fibres, fisheries etc. He stressed the importance of conservation of water and soil for sustainable production in different agro ecological regions ranging from western ghats to north - east India and in arid zones of the country in the backdrop of climate change scenarios. Soil and water are the vital natural resources essential to sustain life which are most neglected and over exploited. This calls everyone to honour and respect the natural resources and their careful use for the prosperity and sustenance of the future generations.

Judicious management of natural resources through highly effective soil and water conservation technologies and participatory watershed management is of paramount importance for sustaining various ecosystem services and achieving targets of various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and achieving the land degradation neutrality. Loss of top soil, shrinking water resources and the expanse of degraded lands in the country has serious consequences on country’s food security and environmental quality. Soil being a non-renewable resource and the basis for 97% of all food production, strategies to prevent soil depletion are critical for sustainable food production and exhorted everyone to take pledge to conserve water and soil for better future of the mankind.

Forest fires are as old as the forests themselves

15th June 2022

They pose a threat not only to the forest's wealth but also to the entire regime of flora and fauna, seriously disturbing the biodiversity, ecology, and environment of a region. During summers, when there is no or little rain for months, the forests become littered with dry senescent leaves and twigs, which could burst into flames ignited by the slightest spark. The Himalayan forests, particularly the Garhwal Himalayas have been facing forest fires during the last few summers, resulting in a colossal loss of vegetation cover of the region.

Traditional methods of forest fire prevention are not proving effective and it is now essential to raise public awareness on the matter, particularly among those who live close to or in forested areas.

We at DBS are committed to our responsibilities as a leading institution in the field of forestry and agriculture, and keeping that spirit high, the students of B.Sc Forestry along with Dr. Manish Maan participated in an orientation cum discussion session covering various aspects of Controlled Burning under the guidance of Mr. Jaiveer, Beat Officer of Atak Farm Forest Beat of Jhajhra Range. The discussion included the causes of forest fires and measures to curb them, focusing on the method of Controlled Burning to prevent/control forest fires. The dissemination of this learning to the local people would help in their capacity building and improvisation of mitigation strategies.
